CT Cone Beam Scan

Dr’s Gorab, Marsh and Scoggins utilize a state of the art, low dose Maxillofacial Cone Beam CT (computed tomography) technology that provides highly detailed and accurate 3-D radiographic images for the diagnosis, surgical planning and treatment of variety of conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region.
This technology provides information for the diagnosis, planning and surgical treatment in orthodontics, dental implantology, TMJ analysis, airway assessment, jaw reconstructive surgery and other oral surgery procedures.
Undistorted, anatomically correct view of the jaw, teeth and facial bones along with cross-sectional views are easily generated and can be viewed in any number of different directions. Three-dimensional images enable a level of anatomical accuracy and precise surgical planning not possible with traditional 2-D imaging technologies.
With the addition of Cone-Beam CT technology in our office, our surgical practice is committed to providing innovative and high–quality patient care for a variety of oral and maxillofacial conditions and disorders.

Advantages of Cone Beam CT Scan

  • Radiation is much less compared to a regular CT scan found at hospitals and radiology facilities.
  • In contrast to conventional 2-D images, 3-D images can show anatomy precisely eliminating uncertainty in surgery
  • Nerves, impacted teeth and other vital structures can clearly be visualized which is essential in preventing complications in surgery
  • Information about the location of impacted teeth (which cannot be seen) can be given to orthodontists or other dental professionals.
  • Information from the scans can be used to plan dental implant surgery and bone grafting with precision.
  • The time to take the scan is a fraction of that needed for a conventional medical scan.
  • Cysts, infections, tumors and any other abnormality in the jaw areas can be clearly delineated.
  • The cost of this type of scan can be much less than that of a CT scan done in a hospital or other facility.
